Intertek Notified Body (NB) 0413 provides you with the third party support you need to make sure your batteries comply with EU Battery Regulation requirements.
Certification by an accredited Notified Body such as Intertek gives you confidence that your batteries meet the essential requirements of the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, helping you secure and maintain access to the EU market.
When do I need a Notified Body?
The EU Battery Regulation defines two CE conformity assessment routes involving a Notified Body:
- Module D1 – Production Quality Assurance:
Following a successful audit of the manufacturer’s quality system, a notification is issued. Ongoing surveillance audits ensure continued compliance of the battery type/model. - Module G – Unit Verification:
The Notified Body verifies the specific battery type/model and issues a Module G certificate upon successful assessment.
How does the Certification Process look like within the EU Battery Regulation?
1. Application review
Intertek verifies that your application and all necessary documentation are available. The documentation shall consist of:
- Technical documentation
- A fully completed application form
Missing items can be submitted within a defined timeframe to complete your application.
2. Review and Revision
An independent expert assesses your battery technical documentation compliance with essential requirements. If the documentation needs clarification or additional material, we will contact you for feedback within a specified time.
For Module D1, a two-stage audit is performed: documentation review and onsite verification. In stage 1 the quality system documentation is evaluated and in stage 2 an onsite verification of compliance at the production site is performed.
3. Certification review
A certification officer confirms completeness of technical documentation and proper execution of the review and audit process.
4. Certification Issuance
Once the technical documentation is complete, a certificate is issued for module G and a notification is issued for module D1.
5. Certificate Maintenance
- For module D1, an annual surveillance audit is conducted at least once every 12 months. The audit is focused on verifying ongoing conformity with the notified quality system. The notification is valid for three years, after which the Notified Body will re-issue a new one.
- For module G, the certificate does not have a specific validity period but remains valid for assessed battery and standards.
